Downloading Data From Quote.Com
----------
For certain traders, downloading
data from quote.com is a viable
solution. This source for data
is FREE and can be used to immediately
collect data for use with my PFP
applications. The only drawback
is that it is time consuming for
traders that want to download
hundreds of charts.
The process is simple and PFP
users can use this option to download
intraday data into the PFP applications.
Here are the instructions.
1. Open a new web browser window
2. Go to Quote.com
3. Type in a symbol in the SYMBOL
edit box and choose LIVECHARTS
from the dropdown list box, then
click SUBMIT.
4. A java charting tool will appear,
choose the INTerval ("D" Daily),
then click on CHART, then EXPORT
CHART, then BAR DATA TO ASCII
5. Now, a new browser window will
appear that displays the chart
data.
6. Now, click on FILE, then SAVE
AS, then choose a directory where
you want to save the data files
and name the data file accordingly
(IBM_D for IBM Daily or IBM_10
for IBM 10 Minute).
Once you have saved the file(s),
you can load them into the PFP
program.
1. Open the PFP application
2. Click on FILE, then OPEN FILE
TYPE, then QUOTE.COM ASCII FILES
3. Choose the directory where
you saved the data files and try
to open one of the files.
4. You will be asked to choose
LINEAR DATE or ACTUAL DATE. Actual
date should be used for all End-Of-Day
data files. Linear date should
be used for all intra-day data
files.
5. Your chart will appear and
you will be ready to go.
